Spring has Sprung
‘Tis the season for the flower blooms to be blooming and the honey bees to be buzzing. Oh, and for me to start getting ready for the beach.
April showers might bring May flowers, but more important than that— April workouts bring May muscles.
If your goal is to shred a little weight for the beach this year, don’t wait until beach season! Start now!
I had to do a little Wedding Shredding recently. One of my best friends is getting married this weekend in Aruba, and I’m in the wedding party. A wedding on the beach is a strong motivator to lose extra pounds!
I’m also planning to compete a weight class lighter at my next powerlifting meet in May, so I needed to lose some weight anyway.
I’m currently down to around 198 - 199 from almost 225!
Here are the three key factors that worked for me:
Cook at Home - Without a plan, you plan to fail! More often than I’d like to admit, I’d head to work without a lunch and end up eating takeout. This is bad for your wallet and bad for your caloric intake! Everything changed when I started to make a strong effort to cook at home and bring lunches to work. I ate so much better by having home cooked meals with real ingredients instead of whatever I was getting at restaurants. I lost weight without even counting calories.
Cardio - As a lifelong powerlifter, I’ve always neglected cardio exercise. But recently I’ve added a significant amount of Zone 2 cardio. Want to know what that is? Click here to read our blog about it. A little cardiovascular exercise helped a ton! It gave me extra wiggle room with my diet since I was burning extra calories.
Weight Training - Losing fat is just half the battle. I also had to keep the muscle I had on my body. Doing heavy resistance training is the key to maintaining muscle mass while you lose fat in a calorie deficit. If you need any help in this department, feel free to reach out! It’s my specialty!
Well, those are the three quick tips that worked for me. Give one or some or all three a try and see what works for you!
